Month-end Recap: January 2025
January started off rough but seems to be ending smoothly. My son and I both battled a virus for almost two weeks for the first part of this month. But we recovered and I was able to get the 2025-2026 contracts out for the new authors.
Had to face the difficult task of sending rejections out, which was not easy for me to do. It's part of the business but it did hurt my heart to do it. We had outstanding submissions from everyone but just are not large enough to publish them all, at least not yet, maybe one day.
We had our first release of the year, Brian Bowyer's ROADS TO RUIN, is out now. More details on that below.
As you are reading this, I am attending the Dark Drafts Festival in Mount Joy, PA. This is the first event here at Bube's Brewery and hopefully it won't be the last. I'll do a full write up on it when I return.
You'll notice this post will be a little different. We will be curating more indie community content as part of our mission to be a community platform.
New Release from Uncomfortably Dark
NEW:
ROADS TO RUIN from Brian Bowyer is out now on Godless and is ready for pre-order on Amazon!
ROADS TO RUIN
Three stand-alone novellas connect as one harrowing novel from Splatterpunk Award-nominated and Godless Award-winning horror author Brian Bowyer. Including ROAD HARVEST, ROAD NARROWS, and GRINDING ROAD!
ROAD HARVEST
Two killers leave Los Angeles in a tour bus with a ferocious guard dog. Traveling east, they
abduct people from highways and chain them to poles in the back. Along the way, they rescue a
mentally ill woman from a deranged psychiatrist’s basement. When they reach their journey’s
end, a shocking revelation threatens the remnants of her sanity.
ROAD NARROWS
A famous novelist and the obsessed fan who stalks her. A traveling musician haunted by the
ghosts of his family. A mentally ill woman and the two serial killers who saved her. A jilted
lover who murders her ex-girlfriend for sleeping around. When these worlds collide in the outer
darkness of Los Angeles, all that matters is survival.
GRINDING ROAD
Two killers share a compound in Los Angeles. A necrophiliac moves into the main house. A
teenage girl commits murder and falls in love with a bloodthirsty woman who lives with the two
killers and the necrophiliac. Chaos ensues when the necrophiliac sets his sights on the
bloodthirsty woman’s new girlfriend.
"Imagine if John Wick met Saw....Roads to Ruin is an action-packed, adrenaline fueled roller-coaster!"

Indie Horror Authors You Need to Read
Under-rated, hidden gems, and up and coming stars, do not miss out on books by this month's spotlight authors!
John Boden-a long-standing horror author in the community, John's work defies many genre descriptions, and his words have such a poetic bent to them that reading his novella SNARL made me utter the phrase 'skin suit' when referring to his words but I digress. Check out his work below if you enjoy things more on the quietly dark and disturbing side.
Kenzie Jennings-Kenzie is a wonderful author in the industry that is known for her splatter western RED STATION, her collections full of feminine rage and crimson gore, and her wonderfully written prose. I enjoy her stories, and I think you will too.
Sarah DeRosa-Sarah is an incredible new talent in the extreme horror world. She's a huge community supporter, avid reader, and a rising voice in the genre. I had the pleasure of meeting her recently and she is lovely, talented, and darkly disturbing in her stories. Find her work below.
