The Namaste Slasher by Alan Shivers

What an excellent introduction to Alan Shivers' work! I absolutely flew through this book, if I didn't have to work for a living (goals), I would have finished this in one sitting. After being absolutely hooked during the first chapter, we take a small breather to set the scene of our story. And what a setting! Hidden in the remote Croatian mountains is a mindfulness retreat that sounds like a natural paradise. Beautiful scenery, tranquility, nature, and a big dude that wants to kill every-damn-body!!

The characters were an amazing blend of humans from different cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, and races. In the words of one of the MCs, Aagje, "it's giving diversity." It truly made my heart soar to read a book with so much marginalized representation, without their differences being the only distinct thing about them. They were complex, fully formed people. And Alan made you care deeply for each one, then broke your heart time and again once the slashing began.

Once the action began, it did not let up. There were no breaks or opportunities to come up for air. The characters didn't get breaks, why should the reader? I really loved that about this book.

Definitely recommend for anyone who loves a good summer/ camp slasher!
