10-29-2024 Besonen Breakdowns

Today's breakdown is for the audiobook of "Cadaverous" by Jay Bower:

Metal music and Horror, these two things have been the center of my life for decades, so when I needed to find the perfect book to close out my 2024 October reading list, the choice was of no question. With no idea what to expect, I went in blindly and was told a story about a musician who would go to any length to ensure success. As a former aspiring musician myself, I found the main character's desperation and hunger very familiar, so I understood fully when things took a bloody turn. Usually I can call an ending or twist, but that wasn't the case here as I really wasn't sure what the conclusion would grant us. At the end, I found myself questioning how far my drive to make it would have taken me had I been given the opportunity presented here...

I have been to many shows at the Pop's venue in StL so it was cool to have it mentioned here too, as well as some nice band name drops!

The audio portion was performed by Joe Hempel whose delivery made it feel natural. I felt like the narrator was a young adult, which fits precisely with this book. I think he nailed the tone of this one.

5/5 stars.
