10-8-2024 Besonen Breakdowns

Today's first breakdown is for "Zombie Ducks" by Candace Nola:

I picked this one up based off of title alone and went in blind to the plot. What I was expecting wasn't what I received, it was actually a lot better. Candace thinks outside of the Zombie trope box with this one and delivers a fun, silly but gory tale that seems to have been written as a sort of tribute to the cheesy Monster movies from the black and white television days, which makes it cooler for me as I grew up watching those classics! I could picture her grinning with delight and amusement as she wrote it. You could feel her energy radiating from the pages, as always with her work. Not my favorite story that she has told, but for what it is, it was done perfectly.

4/5 stars.

Second breakdown of the day is for "Zippers" by Candace Nola:

The term "meat-suit" just got a facelift and in turn has presented us a new icon! This one right here is an example of Nola at her finest, disgustingly brilliant in the Horror section but packed full of heart. A love letter to Leatherface and her eldest daughter, this twisted tale is one your sick mind doesn't want to miss! I don't want to say a lot and spoil anything, but this one is straight up brutal and I'm unsure who is crazier, the main character or Candace for writing it or me for enjoying it so much, likely all of us...

5/5 stars.
