Today's breakdown is for the audiobook of "The Regulators" by Stephen King:
I knew nothing about this one going in other than it was an alternate telling of Desperation (which I was familiar with the story of) so I decided to give it a try. It is kind of an odd one, but the pacing kept me interested enough to hang in and see what exactly was going on. I'm sure some will read this and find a trigger somewhere as it takes a few sad and dark turns as only SK can do. I dug how it related to Doctor Sleep's villains with how the evil entity in here feeds. Also did not call the ending which I always adore. A weird adventure that was worth taking. I'd say overall I liked this one, but I don't feel it is amongst his strongest works - maybe among his strangest though.
The audio portion was read by Frank Muller who recorded it in the 90s and I really dug the vintage feel his voice gave to a tale that took place in Ohio where I grew up. It was like a burst of nostalgia, even though the story was new to me, because the setting and locations were familiar as was the way his narration sounded.
4/5 stars.
