Today's breakdown is for the audiobook of "Lisey's Story" by Stephen King:
I actually watched the filmed series prior to actually reading this book so I had an idea of what it was about going into it. While the series followed it pretty closely, the printed version of course is slightly better, and a tad darker. Not the most original tale King has told (as it felt to me like a cross between Misery and Rose Madder quite a bit) but it definitely had its moments. I enjoyed it even though it felt a little too wordy at times, very glad to have experienced this tale in two variants. If you like when Stephen crosses over to the Fantasy genre then you might enjoy the other world presented here. The ending gave me chills as often times SK has that effect on me with his passages, although I will say that it presents some themes on loss and closure that may weight heavy on you once you’re finished. I liked the little tidbits he added in the author afterword so be sure to stick around for that as well.
The audio portion was narrated by Mare Winningham who did a wonderful job with making this play out like a movie in my mind.
4/5 stars.
