Brawl Review: I Found Puppets Living in my ApartmentWalls by Ben Farthing

“Johnny awakes. A puppet looms over his bed.He recognizes the furry Grandpa was its puppeteer on the children’s television show R-City Street. But Grandpa went missing a year ago. He disappeared from this very apartment building, which was converted from the old R-City Street studio. Desperate to see Grandpa again, Johnny follows the puppet inside the building’s walls, ever deeper into a puppet-infested labyrinth...”

Today's review is I Found Puppets Living in my Apartment Walls by Ben Farthing

This is my first story by Ben Farthing and I am looking forward to reading more from the "I Found" series. I personally hate muppets, they freak me the fuck out, so, of course, I HAD to read this book.

It did not disappoint.

Johnny wakes up and his grandfather's puppet (or what looks like his grandfather's puppet) is hanging over his bed. NO FUCKING THANK YOU. Right then I wanted to put the book down, throw in the towel, call it a dnf. But instead, I took deep breaths and reminded myself it was just a made up story. So I dove back in and got trapped within the walls.

The other worldliness inside the apartment walls is terrifying enough, why does there also have to be animated puppets roaming around in there?

Like, come on Ben, could you not?

In his defence, he had to do it because it's a major plot point, so I guess I'll let him have it...

Based on the title and cover, this story should be something childish and silly, but it's really not. It is eerie, sinister, and claustrophobic. Will Johnny find answers? Will he make it out of the walls? Will anyone?

Give this story a go, if you're brave enough, but don't get stuck inside the walls...
