This week I wrap up one of my favorite slasher series. I'm sad it's over, but what a ride it was! For anyone who hasn't read this yet, it's a perfect fall series (hint, hint, nudge, nudge)!
FINAL SLAUGHTER by Sergio Gomez
1. This is the final installment of the Slaughter Trio by Sergio Gomez. The first two in the trio are ‘Camp Slaughter’ and ‘Halloween Slaughter’. I personally think they can all technically be read as standalone books, there are definitely some elements that continue from the first book(s) that are better if you read all, in order.
2. Final Slaughter was the perfect way to wrap-up, what I feel, is the scariest book slasher villain. While this was definitely not Ignacio’s most brutal book, it does give us more of a glimpse into his psyche which is terrifying. You also learn that he has some limitations and that his environment plays a large role in why he can do what he can do. There is a bit more of a supernatural element in this installment and I found that enjoyable. I was glad to have a little more context as well. Not every question was answered, but it wouldn’t be fun if they were!
3. Man, this one was sad. There is a lot of death and brutality in each of the Slaughter books, however, this one hit a little harder for me because it’s returning characters that Gomez made us love in previous books. You want to cheer for them, but deep inside you know it’s pointless.
4. I love a slasher and I would say this series is one of my top 5 in the genre; not just because I find Ignacio to be so terrifying, but because I love the writing style and overall feel of this series. Sometimes it can be hard to make a slasher unique, which doesn’t typically bother me, but I found this series to be a bit different with some unique elements.
Definitely recommend the whole series!
